We are lucky that Ollie has loved having baths from an early age, after getting over the initial shock of being plunged into water as a newborn! He loves bath time which usually happens with Daddy, and we have tried a range of products which both clean and smell nice but also don't irritate his skin which has a tendency to be dry. In recent months he has become a lot more active in the baths, splashing, standing up and wanting to play, so its been important to introduce some bath games so we can keep him amused long enough to give him a good wash! Here's what we've been using...
This is the very first product we ever used at bathtime after waiting the recommended eight weeks before using anything other than water. We chose it purely because I received a free sample in my bounty set and love the Johnsons scent. We still use this to wash Ollies hair, which we do about twice a week. It leaves his hair really shiny and squeaky clean, but I wouldn't use this on his skin as I've found it really drying. It's definite a better product or hair only in my opinion.
This is what we use to wash Ollie, as well as use a little in the bath water as recommended. I really love Oilatum products - they are so gentle but moisturise the skin so well. I wouldn't use anything else on a regular basis on his skin now. We also have the Oilatum moisturiser on prescription which has worked well too.
This is a lovely oil which we use when we want to add a little extra moisture. Ollie's skin has been drier than normal after chicken-pox and he has lots of little dry scabs still, and I find that a few drops of this oil helps keep his skin nourished. Its a totally natural product and feels so soft on the skin. I use it myself in my baths and much prefer it to Bio Oil as it is totally scent free and seems to melt into the bath water better! I've also used this directly on little patches of very dry skin he sometimes gets behind his knees, and it clears them up really well.
We were sent a selection of Mum and Me products from the Little Explorers range and I was instantly impressed with the lovely packaging! This soap comes out like a mousse/shaving foam and Ollie loves smearing it on himself! It has a very slight soft scent but seems like a really gentle product. Because of Ollie's dry skin I use this more as a fun product rather than to wash him every single day, so we have different games we play in the bath and one of them is using this. He loves squidging it between his fingers and then smearing it over his chest! I would imagine this is a great product for anyone who has problems bathing their child because it makes the cleaning process more fun! It is also really good at cleaning mucky hands as babies love holding it and feeling it between their fingers.
Again this is a product which we don't use every day, but have as a fun game for bath time. It creates very soft little bubbles which Ollie likes pointing at! We obviously also make the customary Santa's beard with them! To be honest I have probably used this product more myself, as I love having just a few bubbles in my bath and this gives the perfect amount without out-of-control foam!
We love these! Yet again another product from Mum and Me to make bath time fun. The Bath Crackles fizz and crackle (unsurprisingly there!) and turn the water blue. Ollie was really intrigued when I sprinkled them in the water. I think I am going to start doing some water play with him as a day-time activity as he really loves the water and swimming so I want to encourage it. I am going to use these for the water play and to get him listening out for different subtle sounds.
The bath we use for Ollie is from Mothercare and part of the Precious Bear range which is now discontinued. In my hormonal pregnancy state I decided that everything we had needed to match so we bought absolutely everything Precious Bear and some friends were kind enough to give us this bath and the matching top and tail bowl. I'd recommend the Mothercare baths as they are a good size and sturdy once they start standing and leaning on the edges. It saves so much water using this rather than just putting the baby directly in the bath, as you can fill it up much fuller. When Ollie was really small we also used the Mothercare Ergonomic Bath support which fits inside the baby bath and helped so much with cleaning him and making him feel secure.
